"the best BD Live apps directly relate to the feature, and deliver supplemental information in an unobtrusive way..."

Cubist commentary

ESCA Europe (Entertainment Supply Chain Academy) is underway now in Europe, organized by MESA (Media & Entertainment Services Alliance), the Digital Entertainment Group and co-produced by Futuresource. This is the European version of ESCA held in Los Angeles in June where we heard the latest thinking from studio execs about the evolution of Blu-ray. In this blog post, MESA provides an update on the current thinking about how Blu-ray, and BD-Live in particular, can become more relevant to consumers. We thought it was important to note that the community-building features which garnered a great deal of attention earlier this year, and which we commented on in an earlier news update, are not catching the public's imagination in the same way that they are in the computing space. Instead, as these experts suggest, BD-Live is most useful when it adds a dimension to the existing program, and through BD-Live's interactivity. Like other development studios, we're continuing to explore what BD-Live can offer our clients and have also found ourselves thinking about the 'value added' by a number of features we've seen discussed and on current discs. More than just interactivity engines, we're particularly interested in those features which offer some interesting, something of value to both consumers and clients. We hope that industry discussions like this signal a change.
