Though there's a lot of excitement about 3D at home in some corners, not everyone commenting on this story at www.bluray.com had positive things to say. There was much concern about the incompatibility of current players and TVs with the new 3D spec and the prospect of yet another investment in home entertainment equipment upgrades is daunting to some. 3D may be the cutting edge of home entertainment, but we think there's still some consumer education which needs to happen before this advance is accepted or valued universally. Though Blu-ray certainly has the technical ability to deal with the increased bit rates and storage needed for 3D, public adoption is likely to be much slower than Blu-ray overall due to the additional investment required. We'll be interested to see the kind of reception this receives come Christmas, 2010.
