Cubist commentary

Every studio is looking for the killer BD-Live app. With the extreme popularity of the iPhone, it makes sense to incorporate this technology with Blu-ray, multiplying the utility of both. This article notes that two studios have announced that future projects will include iphone/Blu-ray connectivity, which is most likely based on Netblender/BluFocus' BD Touch technology announced in March, 2008. We saw this technology demonstrated at ESCA in June and the ease and versatility of the connection was pretty impressive. A key facet sure to please consumers is the ability to enter text using the iphone touch keyboard, a definite improvement over the laborious remote-based input system. The BD Touch technology is just the latest in the powerful trend of empowering consumers in their media consumption habits. The ways in which consumers are interacting with content are continuing to evolve every day. Though still an emerging technology, Blu-ray will need to keep up. Managed copy and BD Touch are good first steps and we'll be working, like others, to develop the next one.
