"The continuing success of Blu-ray is testament to the growth of consumer confidence in the high definition format...once consumers have experienced the format, they continue to spend their money on the product...."

Cubist commentary

If the consumption habits of our British brethren bear any similarity to those of their American counterparts, we predict that Blu-ray sales here in the United States will see a similarly significant increase. Aided by a slowly recovering economy and a real increase by a number of content providers entering the market, this demonstrates how big a year Blu-ray could have. The UK sales figure, 3.1 million units, puts Blu-ray on course to hit 12 million units, as forecast by Futuresource Consulting at the ESCA Conference just a few weeks ago. Having heard the presentation live, and marveling at their prediction for the US (75 million units for 2009, up from 24 million in 2008), we think that Futuresource may be right on the money.
