Cubist commentary
We've suspected that the coming digital change-over would be a help to Blu-ray player penetration, and now a several industry groups have provided the data to support that belief. Research from Video Business, Nielson and the NPD Group shows that increasing HD TV purchases have paralleled increasing Blu-ray player sales (up 73%) and Blu-ray software sales, which are nearly double when compared to a year ago. One of our favorite barometers of Blu-ray sales growth, www.homemediamagazine.com, provides supporting data, showing Blu-ray software sales up 119% from a year ago. Whether intended or not, the digital TV change-over really seems to be giving Blu-ray a boost. With these kinds of numbers, the growth curve is likely to only get steeper as the economy picks up.
