Cubist commentary

This is very exciting news about the Blu-ray's continued growth. While software sales growth is a critical indicator of Blu-ray's increasing success, the article also offers some pretty impressive numbers regarding the sales and market penetration of players. One criticism of the enthusiasm behind Blu-ray's growth figures is that the PS3 gaming console is also a Blu-ray player, and thus any calculation of penetration MAY have been skewed by gamers who aren't necessarily using it as a BD player. The numbers in this article show that over 75% of the estimated 10.5 million households equipped with Blu-ray players have stand-alone players, which should put that argument to rest. Interestingly, Adams Media Research, who published the report on which this article is based, features another intriguing report on their website, which reveals that HD TV-capable households are expected to grow over 8.5% yearly, to 84% in 2012. This trend is sure to contribute to continued BD growth.
