"The MEDIA-TECH Association announced today that it is joining the International Digital Media Alliance led initiative which expresses concern that the current AACS licensing fee structure might be impeding the adoption rate of the Blu-ray Disc for non-Hollywood titles..."

Cubist commentary

With the recent news that licensing fees for Blu-ray hardware is expected to fall, another Blu-ray hurdle is also getting some long-overdue attention. Media-Tech, a global trade organization which serves the packaged media manufacturing industry, undoubtedly carries some weight with the members of the AACS due to their size and extensive membership list. At Cubist, we've spoken with clients who are daunted by the high cost of the mandatory AACS licensing and royalties and reduction in those fees will certainly lower the barrier to entry for many of them. This is a initiative we've been in favor of since the introduction of Blu-ray and we look forward to seeing the AACS's response Even without immediate action, however, momentum is building to lower costs and make the format more accessible to producers of all sizes. And that is very encouraging. Show your support, sign the petition.
