"Panasonic, Phillips and Sony today published plans to create a single licensing firm for Blu-ray..."

Cubist commentary

This is a wise move, not only for the current economic climate, but also for the Blu-ray in general. It can't do anything but help to have a single licensing authority, and we can hope that this move represents a strategic change by the Blu-ray braintrust to make Blu-ray more affordable in every respect. We'd be pleased to see the same attention paid to AACS licensing costs by the Licensing Authority founders, which would make the format more reasonable for small publishers. This would encourage the release of even more titles, which in turn would encourage more player sales.
