With the model of DVD to follow, there's an expectation that authoring costs would begin a rapid decline as authors become more experienced. However, as discussion at this conference pointed out, the BD development process and particularly BD-J are proving resistant to rapid templatizing due to the increased complexity of the process. Not only studios, but also top authoring teams continue to wrestle with ways to exploit the possibilities of the Blu-ray spec. You can expect to see a fair amount of attention paid to research and progress in the coming year, particularly with how BD-J can both expand the consumer experience and open new methods of communication and interaction for content providers.
